Lyndon Larouche is one of the cults being discussed and I am a member at that forum. Usually when I visit not much is happening. However, in January the Larouche site posted yet another screed, in which I was named. About the same time a character named ace appeared at the site. Thus began a long period of posts and counterposts involving ace and several members. I finally got involved, largely because I was tired of being accused of stalking Robert Beltran. I never have, although the Larouche organization, of which Beltran is a member, would like to convince you otherwise.

The tone of the posts escalated, to the point that ace put up 3 posts in succession involving friends of mine and including an offensive personal comment. I informed the administrator who issued a warning to ace and cautioned ace that if he didn't get a grip it would not go well for him. Ace apparently did not get the message and was permanently banned yesterday. The rest of us got a warning. Given that I dueled with ace, when perhaps it might have been better to ignore him, I accept that a warning was likely warranted.

One thing that was discussed, and I am still not certain about, is whether or not the Larouche organization had gone on the offensive at Factnet via ace. One item we discussed was whether or not this was a team effort, or a single person. Ace claimed to live in the Chicago area, to be married, to own a home, to be a 'legal' observer, and that he was not a member of the organization. I disputed the 'legal' observer part given his full throated participation in the life of the board. I also disputed his claim that he was not a member, pointing out that his behavior proved otherwise.

Today, one of ace's cheerleaders showed up to complain about her boy getting booted and oh the injustice of it all. I am all for freedom of expression, and I recognize that the expression can be annoying and sometimes downright offensive. However, context matters when judging what should or should not be said. Context requires judgement and humans are not always reliable in terms of making good judgements. Deliberately lobbing personal attacks on people you do not know in order to hurt someone at a forum, deliberately engaging in personal attacks on people rather than arguing the issues, deliberately misrepresenting yourself, are all indicators that perhaps that poster needs to leave. At least in my view they do because the issues are no longer the focus of the forum. Ace did a great job disrupting the forum. When he was banned all of his posts were stripped off the forum, which shrank by 50 pages! Hopefully we will all do a better job managing ourselves should he, or a friend, return. For now, I am not sad that he is gone.

Larouche Headed To Court Again

The widow of Ken Kronberg, the former publisher for Larouche, has filed a lawsuit alleging harassment and libel against Larouche, Barbara Boyd and the LPAC. In any case, the PAC has released a video titled 1932, that includes narration by Beltran. Straight to The Schiller Institute, a Larouche front group. People give money on behalf of loved ones all the time, but this takes the cake for me. I shouldn't be surprised. A late-breaking report at Factnet suggests that the European membership has dropped to less than 500. I would think the worldwide membership doesn't top more than a couple thousand, at best. First of all, I don't know x.dell, other than to surmise he is a teacher/researcher and studies cults. This series opens with the death of Jeremiah Duggan, and continues into a study of Larouche's connections with Nazi and neo-Nazi elements. X.Dell theorizes that Jeremiah was beaten by 'security' people at Weisbaden when he challenged the speakers at the conference as being ant-Semitic. It was a clumsy attempt to force him to submit. Instead, he ran for his life and died on the highway. X.dell also offers up some theories about why the Germans, and by extension the Brits, are loathe to conduct a serious investigation, despite all the pious protestations by the police. I seriously doubt Mrs. Duggan will get justice for Jeremiah, but one can hope.

Obama just gave the speech of his life, answering those who raised the issue of Reverend Wright, his former pastor at Trinity, who spewed some pretty stupid and vile comments. Obama never drank that particular Kool-Aid, as his speech makes clear. The LYM, on the other hand, has been sucking down Larouche's Kool-Aid for some time, whether they know it or not. Beltran - their erstwhile drama coach - may be sipping at it as well. I wonder if he will ever be forced to give a similar speech. After all, this is the guy who proclaimed, loudly and proudly on the record (and was recorded), that he's a Larouchie. Given all the previous information put out about Larouche, and the insights from X.dell I wonder how much longer it will take before he wakes up and smells the coffee, thus joining the other refugees from Larouche's snare.

The Latest Comedy Release

I know that this isn't part of what Beltran is teaching the LYM. Pretty interesting. Larouche seems determined to flail away at Molly Kronberg, among others. That's a tactic that could backfire, not that he cares. I have wondered just how tight a leash Harley has him on and now, after listening to the broadcast, I suspect that there isn't any, for reasons that will become clear.

What we learn is that Beltran is an idealist, first and always. He has been spending his time with the LYM and lobbying elected officials. I can totally get the idealism and the lobbying, and I can even get the time spent with the LYM if it gets them engaged with the world in a sensible manner vs drinking Larouche's Kool-aid. Unfortunately, there is Kool-aid in abundance and they have taken a page from Larouche's playbook, and possibly The First Shrub as well.

Beltran and the LYMers are determined to engage in what can best be described as a campaign of "shock and awe." He tells a story that exemplifies this; meeting with a local Congressman, Beltran demands to know how Speaker Pelosi can defy the Constitution and declare 'impeachment is off the table.' The beleaguered Congressman hems and haws, referring to other priorities, which Beltran dismisses. Sitting as I do in the midst of the maelstrom, I differ with his take on the situation. I don't know if the story he tells reflects his own naivete, or an unwillingness to confront political reality.

Our Congress is beset by partisanship of the sort I don't ever recall seeing until The First Shrub gained the White House. The lack of leadership, across the board, is staggering. Congress, notoriously late with budget, fell to a new fiscal low when the decision was made to run the country on a Continuing Resolution (CR) for the entire Fiscal Year 2007. We are now on our 3rd CR, and no end in sight for FY08. I fear a replay is in the works. Given the choice between a budget and impeaching Cheney, I vote for the budget. Fiscal discipline is important. Getting the VP under control is important. Of the two, the budget is a higher priority at this point. If impeachment were a serious option, it should have been done much earlier in the year.

Beltran fails to recognize the need for fiscal discipline and the long term impact if we don't get Congress in line on that issue. VPs come and go, but the budget will be with us, always. Cheney got away with so much because Congress turned itself into his doormat.

There was also discussion about the current foreclosure mess and an effort underway by a Congressman to declare a moratorium on foreclosures for a few months. Those are fighting words since there are many folks who practiced due diligence, bought what they could actually afford, and were not seduced by efforts to get them into questionable loan programs. They are not facing foreclosure. Predatory lending practices were in play and those using such practices need to be held to account. However there are many who simply failed to do their homework. I don't believe the rest of America needs to bail out everyone who lives beyond their means.

Beltran ought to consider fine tuning his idealism and focusing on the political realities. Without a doubt the people need to remember that the Constitution begins with "WE THE PEOPLE" in BIG letters. But politics is also the art of the possible and of compromise. If he is going to play in that game, he needs to remember that.

Beltran carries the same idealism as the LYM, so Harley doesn't need a leash. He just needs Beltran to keep on doing whatever it is he is doing. And making public appearances as needed. At the very least it seems we are to believe Beltran is IMPORTANT since, after a long absence, the LHL Powers That Be have deigned to include him in a webcast. It also gives Beltran an opportunity to plug his own activities and confirm that he is in fact contributing. I hope he matures, politically speaking, or he will be forever disappointed in the outcomes.

String of Pearls

Over at Skull/Bones there is a post discussing the activity over at Wikipedia. The ensuing discussion (21 comments now, including 2 from self) is joined by a character named Miss Anthropy, who takes issue with Rachel Holmes bringing up Robert Beltran's apparent role in the organization as it related to Ken Kronberg's status (all of 1 sentence):

Holmes: It may have had to do in part with Robert Beltran and his ascendancy as the Shakespeare “expert”–what a joke that is.

Miss Anthropy: What’s the joke? I was told Beltran’s given up and he isn’t doing it any longer but you’re sure POd. You keep bringing it up. What’s the story?

There is some piss poor analysis going on here, which MA compounds in a later comment:

Schlanger’s the one you should be after not Beltran and you know it. Keep your eye on the ball instead of setting up straw men.

I am not sure what caused her to toss that into the mix, since RH hadn't responded. When she does respond, she makes it clear that Beltran is not her main concern. So MA comes back with her own response that features this:

The question you should be asking is why Harley and Lyn chased him so hard. They’re the ones who had the master plan.

You should be asking what that master plan was and why they did what they did.

I chimed in, and MA gave up this as (his)her final answer:

You’re both wrong but if you can’t see the forest for the trees I can’t help you. All I can tell you is to dig deeper, if you really want the answers. It’s up to you to pick up the shovel. Sayonara.

I commented again:

I am going to guess that Miss “Deep Throat” Anthropy believes that Beltran was going to be a sock puppet for Harley and become the new ‘face’ of the organization in the US. If that was the plan then it must have fallen pretty flat, given his current invisibility. I think that if s/he really had any info on any of this s/he’d find a way to share it. Hit & run tactics don’t do anything for one’s credibility.

Why care about all this? Because MA's manner of commenting reminded me of past allegations about Beltran's relationship with the LYM being very onesided, that he was a reluctant player and at the mercy of the leadership. I cannot attest to the veracity of those claims, although I personally don't buy any of it because no evidence was ever forthcoming. If MA has anything worth sharing then s/he needs to put the cards on the table. Otherwise they can expect to be treated as just another troll with nothing to contribute to the conversation.

It's Official

The LarouchePAC is running out of dollars. Between the IRS assault on their funds to pay PMR's tax debt (could only happen if the LPAC was a receivable to PMR) and the reduction in income at the card table shrines, the organization is on the ropes financially. If you doubt me, there is this post at FACTNet stating there is a disconnect between LAR's efforts and the income coming in, followed by this gem. Both posts are quoting AM briefings and the second states quite plainly:

It is time to end the insanity of the persistent downward trend in LPAC income at the very moment that Lyn's political impact is on an upward trend, as never before.

What upward trend in political impact? Didn't Avi Klein clearly show there was no impact? Oh wait, I forgot. Any small move off the cellar floor is an upward trend. In any case, the money is drying up, and apparently the org is reconsidering printed pamphlets. Wonder who'll they will get to pay for that since PMR isn't around to do it for free? Is Beltran around to help? On page 7 it refers to a finding in 2006 by the U.S. Court of Appeals in a court case involving Lyndon Larouche's Committee for a New Bretton Woods and the 2000 Presidential campaign. According to the report:

The LaRouche committee received $1,448,389 in federal matching funds. The majority of these funds were paid to seven vendors that provided fundraising and advertising services for the past three nominations that LaRouche had sought; LaRouche was the vendors’ sole client. The committee received $222,034 in public funds in connection with “mark-up charges” paid to these vendors.

The FEC told the Committee it had to pay back the money. Wonder if they did given who the vendors are:

The seven vendors were American System Publications, Inc.,
Eastern States Distributors, Inc., EIR News Services, Inc., Hamilton Systems Distributors, Inc., Mid-West Circulation Corp., Southeast Literature Sales, Inc., and Southwest Literature Distributors, Inc.

BTW, that last piece comes straight off the court opinion - You can read it here.

With the Blinkers On

FACTNet is truly a pot 'o' gold of Larouchian antics, and today it popped out this nugget from an LYMer. I feel sorry for James, but not enough to keep from posting this in response at his blog:

Since you are interested in the truth, what is the truth about Jeremiah Duggan? What is the truth about Ken Kronberg? Do you really believe both are suicides, and occurred because both were driven to take their own lives by family members? Define the truth in words other than those handed to you by LHL.

Without a doubt Kronberg was a suicide, Duggan was not. Neither died because family members exerted some sort of pressure.

I wonder if James has caught up to all the Larouchian History that is being detailed over at FACTNet. Over at FACTNet the Larouche thread now includes a copy of an internal memo that cautions the membership about a variety of folks, including.....Drum rrrroooollllll.....MOI!

Allegedly I am a Star Trek groupie and Robert Beltran stalker, who has joined the ranks of Dennis King, John Train, and unknown others who are exploiting the death of Ken Kronberg.

Well! Who knew I wielded so much influence! I should walk up to the next card table shrine I see and introduce myself. Unfortunately, the LYMers have deserted the Foggy Bottom Metro for now. maybe they'll move over to Metro Center - hint, hint. I'll even give them my autograph for free!

Seriously, I'll cop a plea of nolo contendre to the Star Trek groupie charge. I take exception to being portrayed as a stalker. I point out to all you terribly cerebral loyalists out there that I don't live in California, I don't hang out everywhere that Beltran is at, I don't write him unless his Gatekeeper acts like an ass (all of 2-3X in the past 5 years), I don't call him on the phone, and I certainly don't send him love notes, gifts or offers of employment. Re-read the foregoing to make sure you understand and comprehend it accordingly.

I do question Beltran's affiliation with an organization that has a history of bad acts and exists solely to minister to the personal cult, and needs, of Larouche, a convicted fraudster. Those are facts, not my imagination at work. The death of Ken Kronberg is just one more example of the cost that accrues to Larouchies who are deemed no longer acceptable. The referenced memo bashes PMR and claims that the company failed on its own. The writers conveniently ignore the AM Briefing document, obtained by King, that clearly indicates how Kronberg was viewed. There are still standing claims that the LarouchePAC owed PMR money at the time of Kronberg's death and apparently the financial manipulations don't end there. Seems to me the loyalists are getting good and worried about their ability to continue business as usual.

Beltran is supposed to be a smart man. We'll see how smart he is as the house of cards that is the LarouchePAC and the LYM dissolve into oblivion. Beats a visit from the same division that put away Al Capone. Capiche?

ETA: I have a pic of myself with Beltran from the set visit in 2000. Wonder what the LYMers would pay for a signed copy? All they would need is Beltran's signature and voila! Ebay here they come! They might actually make quota!

I can't wait to see Avi Klein's article about the latest in Leesburg.

You Add One: You Lose One

Carl Osgood's blog is among the missing, but now good ol' Howie G joins the ranks of Larouche friends. They subscribe to the notion that any and all publicity is a good thing. Thus, they document everything they do, including this cadre school, which gives us a pretty good idea of the overwhelming numbers of LYMers that are out there.

Did I say 'overwhelming'? Yes, I surely did. This article tells us that LHL was joined by 50 LYMers from Virginia, while the multipoint conference included 14 participants from Argentina (8 new contacts/6 LYMers), Mexico (10 new contacts/10 LYMers), and Colombia (13, breakdown not given).

So, a total of 97, perhaps 100 young impressionable people spent time in the company of the World's Greatest Economist. Kinda makes your toes tingle in anticipation of the creativity about to be unleashed upon an unsuspecting world. Well it does, doesn't it? Come on, you know it does. We may have to wait a long time while they work the card table shrines, but that's OK. I grumble that the article is basically a puff piece but that pales to what LHL has to say in a single paragraph.

What hypocrisy! He gives the guy an interview and then turns around and disses him. Let me guess: Conor told him it was for an article but didn't say who would publish it? Or maybe LHL's cronies set him up so he could come out blasting. Or, even better, LHL was fully informed, gave the interview and then waited for his opportunity to be offended and insulted. However you paint it, it's standard LHL b---s---. This piece is absolute vintage stuff:

Considering the Guardian's track-record in the Cheney-Blair gang's Jeremy Duggan hoax, one might estimate from his own recent scribblings, that poor wretched Conor's personal morals are even lower than his minuscule IQ.

I think LHL needs to take the IQ test, along with some other tests, just to make sure he is all there. This is a puff piece filled with the usual suspects. Nothing new or interesting here, suggesting that Conor Clarke, the writer, lacked the time, interest, or angle, to focus on the ongoing upheaval in Leesburg since the death of Ken Kronberg, and the decimation of the German leadership reported by others. The article exists because Larouche isn't running in 2008. If Larouche, or his myriad organizations, are in financial, or other, jeopardy this article would never clue you in.

Clarke trots out the history:

After being released from prison in 1994--five years earlier, he was convicted of running a massive mail-fraud scheme--LaRouche found that many of his original associates had abandoned him. Most of the turncoats were baby-boomers, so LaRouche began writing off the entire generation as "generally crazy" and saving his affection for the young, whom he sees as filled with revolutionary promise. Of course, it doesn't hurt that most of the impressionable college students LaRouche recruits are too young to remember that he spent five years in prison for mail fraud.

the current events discussed at FACTNet:

Many of the LaRouche youth drop out of college to work for the movement full-time, and most move into crowded and filthy group housing, where they work long hours distributing literature and making fund-raising phone calls. A number of colleges now warn incoming students about the group.

and the future for the LYM, pedagogically speaking:

he is now hard at work on a new "educational program" for the LYM--which, he says, starts with "questions of the Pythagoreans," then dips into "[Carl Friedrich] Gauss's 1799 doctoral dissertation," and then moves on to the work of nineteenth-century German mathematician Bernhard Riemann. "If you don't understand Riemannian dynamics," intones LaRouche, "you don't know how economies work." He chose the curriculum based on "the kind of things that a leading cadre of economists"--like himself--"should have mastered."

Nothing to see here that we haven't see before.

I was in contact with Avi Klein, who was a tad concerned that this article took the wind out of his sails, as his has yet to be published in The Washington Monthly. It should show up on line or in print next month. If Klein took a different approach that delved into the context of the Kronberg suicide, the demise of PMR, and the fallout upon the LPAC (for starters) we should see a very different and hopefully more informative piece than TNR offered up.

The Lunacy Continues

Every time it calms down, life heats up in the bizarro world. An article about the LYM generates a comment from a Larouchie who just can't believe that LHL would do anything wrong. Bevel's alleged misdeeds.

He makes a point about my Wiki links. I am not an ex-member, but I agree about the need for ex-members to step forward to edit the Wiki entries. They have the most knowledge.

Congratulations on your new blog. My one criticism is that you should point out, in providing links to Wikipedia, that the articles on LaRouche there are not very reliable. A whole team of LYMers have been working night and day to conform the articles to their viewpoint. Wiki is great on science articles and on popular culture but it doesn't at the present time have adequate defense against determined highjackers of articles involving cults and cult leaders. Maybe some ex-members could get involved in the editorial process to rescue these articles--Wiki after all is the first place that searchers go to find info on LaRouche.

How about it guys?

Quotas

Gotta love xclr who is one of the more prolific posters at FACTNet.org. They stayed at a Saint Clair Shores Post Office for most of the day, deflecting the dirty stares of irate Republicans but took a short break when it closed and then moved to a traffic island closer to the office to make quota.............................

The last hour and a half was spent at a traffic island raising the remaining $19.

College-age kids out to raise $100 for Larouche, and out all day to do it. The LarouchePAC reports that Maxine Waters (D-Cal) has signed on to Dennis' impeach Cheney resolution.

Larouche is, naturally, playing this up given the support Dennis is getting. The announcement ends with the following:

At the conclusion of the press conference, a dozen members of the LaRouche Youth Movement (LYM) sang "Impeach Cheney" canons for the occasion. The LYM have circulated an "Impeach Cheney" briefing book widely to the Congress. Democratic statesman Lyndon LaRouche first called for Cheney's impeachment in June 2003. Six news cameras filmed the singing, and a number of journalists interviewed the LYM members.

List of H.Res. co-sponsors: Reps. Dennis Kucinich (OH); William L. Clay (MO); Albert Wynn (MD); Yvette Clarke (NY); Lynn Woolsey (CA); Barbara Lee (CA); Janice Schakowsky (IL); Maxine Waters (CA). All are Democrats.

I have no particular love for Cheney, but I have even less for Larouche, and now I have to question Schakowsky's judgement given that her name is irrevocably linked with Larouche. I wonder if she knows about the allegations of unpaid FICA taxes and the alleged attempt by Barbara Boyd to abscond with the funds to pay those taxes. It's not nice to mess with the IRS. Ask Al Capone.

For FACTNet Followers

I put up this Blogger to compensate for the apparent impending loss of FACTNet. One of the drawbacks is that the software does not allow new posts by anyone. You have to be given authoring rights. Comments, on the other hand, can be posted by anyone if the owner chooses to allow it.

Given these drawbacks, if anyone has information, including links or other documentation, that you would like to see posted here, please email me at kheris@kheris.net. There is plenty to be said about LHL, but I'd prefer to point at facts that can be verified unless we are dealing with someone's direct experience, like erin_b's.

I understand there is a new website in development by others to also provide an alternative if FACTNet closes. I don't know if they will have a message board or not. Stay tuned.

Former VP Running Mate Indicted

Larouche likes to bill himself as a statesman and 'the world's greatest economist.'
